Birmingham Children’s Hospital – Malawi Partnership
Dr. Amanda Goldstein, Hermione Montgomery & Nurse Phoebe
The Birmingham Children’s Hospital has been in partnership with the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, since 2004. Their aim is to facilitate an educational link between the two hospitals, allowing staff to share knowledge, improve skills and ultimately provide better health care for the children.
Simple interventions such as teaching short courses have been shown to have major benefits in health outcomes.
The Fleur de Lys Foundation has been supporting the Malawi Partnership for several years and continues to offer support in the form of medical instrumentation and other vital necessities.
The Johnston Chapter has a continual giving scheme in place to support this charitable organisation via the Fleur de Lys Foundation and has recently donated 50 off nurse’s pocket watches along with spare batteries etc.
In 2013 they donated £565 in commemoration of the Second Battle of Kosovo in 1448 in which many Knights of the Order of the Fleur de Lys perished.
